A STUDY ON PADDY IN INDIA : 2009
A Syndicated Study on Agro-chemicals and Seeds:
This study is one of the largest studies on Paddy.
The agro-chemicals component covered a sample of over 15,000 farmers in around
1,400 villages in 139 districts, while the seeds component covered a sample of
around 12,500 farmers in the same number of villages and districts.
Our study in 2006 had estimated that paddy had
become the largest consumer of agro-chemicals in the country. Since then there
have been dramatic increases in its Minimum Support Prices providing a sizeable
incentive for efforts to increase the productivity through better use of
inputs. Then there has also been significant shifts to proprietary hybrids in
some of the states.
The impact of all these changes have been captured
by this study, making it a critical input for marketing planning in the Paddy
agro-chemicals and seeds fields.
